BABA YAGA

Baba Yaga
(the youngest of the three)

Don't take a stroll too deep in the woods at night
Don't stray away from the path that is right
Beware of the strangers when it's light
But be more cautious of the walkers of night
Because you never know what's lurking in those shadows
Can be an animal from the wild
Or an old woman who seeks a wandering child
Retrace your steps all the way back home
Don't look here and there
Don't answer that voice calling you out from the shadows
Don't let her find you
Don't you ever look for her too
Just keep walking straight
And don't you dare hesitate
For if she catches you
She won't spare you
She will eat you
Decorate her hut from your bones
Your skull will join many others in adorning the fence
That surrounds the turning hut standing on chicken legs...

~~~ From the Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga is a supernatural being or a trio of sisters who are old, deformed and ferocious looking witches. Baba Yaga flies around in a mortar, wields a pestle, and dwells deep in the forest in a hut usually described as standing on chicken legs. Baba Yaga may help or hinder those that encounter or seek her out.
I wrote the poetry above on the youngest of the three sisters (they all share the same name).
